The fruits of the shea tree provide valuable edible and skin care fat, shea butter, which is very popular both at home and abroad.
For many women in northern Benin, collecting and processing shea nuts is one of their main sources of income and shapes the local culture. However, the trees are threatened by deforestation.
The project promotes awareness among the population of the social, economic and ecological importance of shea trees, strengthens the skills of collectors and processors through training, and supports reforestation and sustainable production methods.
